A few times I have followed the arrow and noted that the distance was increasing. This is not a momentary swing, it simply no longer will point at the destination cache. We have to use the older Magellan to lead us to caches since the Legend is unreliable in this aspect. Doesn't mean you can't take a back up compass with you but it's nice to have a built in compass instead of having to use an external compass to orient the GPSr when you are stationary or moving slowly or erratically.
It seems a bit silly to be holding a compass in one hand and a gps in the other when you don't have to. Also note you can turn it off and anyway it doesn't put any measurable drain on the batteries. I have the Vista Cx.. Having said that, I still DO carry a mechanical compass in my caching kit lol. One thing with the Cx's compass though,, you have to hold the unit absolutely level for it to read correctly, and it doesn't warn you if you're holding it off-angle,, sometimes frustrating!

I have not heard of this being a problem on anything other than HCx models, so it may not be an issue at all on a Cx. And not everyone with an HCx sees this problem. Our C can sometimes sit there attempting to get its initial satellite lock for 30 or 45 seconds, while the HCx has it in about 5 seconds.
