The half-cat girl, the strange lone warrior, and the goofy robot-looking guy with guns. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the teammates Toan meets up with; they look and and act like any number of other RPG characters.
It's like the programmers have some sort of guideline they can't deviate from. Sure there was a good female genie, but she sure acted a lot like the other women in recent console RPGs.
Wouldn't it be cool if you had to reanimate some poor dead warrior to complete the game and as the game progresses he continually rots and falls apart? I had hoped to see some more originality in Dark Cloud characters. Granted, it's people and monsters and maybe they wanted the monsters to surprise you, but I doubt it since they are all visible on the map. Either way, the graphics looked good for the most part, albeit a little too simple like a Disney cartoon.
SCEA still had the presence of mind to have different lighting effect for the different times of day and if you have a high resolution TV you can pick out little things like Toan's feathers swaying in his cap and the cool lighting effect from the female genie's magic rings.
To me, an RPG has to really push the limit in the graphics dept. What other genre allows programmers to come up with so many varying environments and monsters?
Yes, the graphics look good, I had just hoped for better. Strangely, not one character speaks throughout the entire game. You must read everything. Not that I blame Sony -- most games have really bad voice acting.
Still, I was expecting a bit more noise coming out of my TV. The environments provided some nice noises as did battle. But nothing really stood out in the audio dept. I wonder if the additional audio was left out because the game is so large and contained on only one disc. I can't say it would be a good rental since it's so long you probably couldn't finish it over the weekend.
It has a refreshing new take on RPGs with its 'build a town'? However, it does tend to bog down at times and you'll feel like you've done the same thing more than twice, making it a little mundane at points. Browse games Game Portals. Dark Cloud. Install Game. Playstation 3. Playstation 2. Overview In a flash, your life has taken a dramatic turn. Admittedly, they do get caught up in some clever fights and inventive action sequences, but I like my heroes a little more mature acting and looking. Lastly, it's important to talk about the game's one true defining point'the creation and rebuilding of the world.
As Max and Monica adventure through the various dungeons, they will collect materials from nearby towns. Through the magic of video games, Max can recreate these towns and in some cases improve upon them. Depending on how you rebuild the town, the game may take you into a different direction. It's a clever idea that obviously was the selling point of the first Dark Cloud game. Dark Cloud 2 takes this unique and fun approach and expands on it by making the game more diverse and branching.
So let's recap. I thought the game's storyline was just OK. I thought the real time battles and weapons upgrade system was pretty good, but didn't like the fact that you need to repair your weapons so often. I really didn't care for either Max or Monica, but I did however like some of the bad guys.
If that was all I was scoring on then I would say stay away, it wouldn't be worth it. But since the game does contain the 'rebuild the world'? Browse games Game Portals. Dark Cloud 2. Install Game. Click the "Install Game" button to initiate the file download and get compact download launcher.
